VRA Trust Fund Gives Back To Communities

Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement Trust Fund has handed over two Educational facilities to two communities at separate ceremonies in the Eastern Region.

The projects; a six-unit Teachers Quarters and a two-unit Kindergarten block were handed over to the residents of New Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality and Adjena in the Asuogyaman District respectively.

A delegation from the VRA Trust Fund secretariat was led by the Deputy Minister of Energy, William Owureku Aidoo and the Executive Director, Richard Twum Barimah Koranteng and another board member from the VRA, joined to hand over the projects.

Nana Antwi Barimah, Board Chairman of the VRA Trust Fund in a speech stated that the two communities are fortunate to have more development projects from the trust fund as he noted that all the same, the districts has more resettlement communities.

The Board Chairman concluded by tasking the settlers to own the expensively funded project as he advised the beneficiary institution which is the Ghana Education Service to take good care of the projects to benefit the next generations. Mr. Owireku Aidoo, said that the construction of the facility for teachers should serve as a motivation factor for them to work hard to bring the best out of the students in the bid to provide better education.

According to him, the VRA Resettlement Fund is aimed at supporting and improving the lives of people in the communities.

He disclosed that government is making ways to increase the annual grant and the decision is yielding positive results so far.
The deputy minister pointed out some shortcomings of the communities which include poor road network, land litigation, water crisis and assured that the resettlement communities that he is going to curb most of the problems they are facing in the communities.

The Executive Director of the VRA Trust Fund, Richard Twum Barimah Koranteng pleaded with the teachers in the community to take good care of the properties being constructed for the students for it to last for a longer period.

He advised the teachers to give their all so that the students can also take advantage of the free SHS they can help the communities in the future.
